You have a lot of things that you're going to want to be able to do with and in your life. A lot of which probably have to do with the fact that you're going to need to spend some more time focused on your financial situation so that you can actually get out there and achieve the financial goals that matter the most to you. One of the best ways to do that is through a financial coach or advisor.
What's a financial coach?
These are specially trained professionals that will be able to help you meet your goals with skills that are going to be geared towards getting you to those future-based ideas and goals that matter to you right now, and later in life. The only question is, are you in a place to be coached?
Are you ready & willing to be coached?
You need to be in a place where you are going to be receptive to hearing guidance and accepting help in your financial situations. This is often easier said than done because we are so sensitive about being in control of our own lives. Further, that time and effort we put into taking care of finances, albeit sensitive, with outside help and similarly, loss of control. However, we want to help you take the next step without the fear of the loss of control, so here are some ways to make yourself more coachable. These are everyday ways for when it comes to meeting your financial coach for the first time or in the beginning.
- Stay positive: Even when you see all of the bad and embarrassing stuff put out in front of you, or you feel as though you are in a bad situation, you need to do what you can to stay positive. This will show your advisor that you are going to do the hard work to achieve all of your goals and it will keep you moving forward amidst all of the tricky parts in the moment.
- Do and Don't ask questions: Some general questions are normal, but remember that if you spew your advisor with all kinds of questions, be ready for all of the answers along with the work that you will need to do because of them. (Be careful what you ask for.) You need to trust that they know what they're doing and they'll be able to help you reach your financial goals. Questions may tell them that you don't trust your professional. However, more professional questions about their work ethic or working relationship is you building that trust.
- Follow their instructions: Even if you can't see why each part of the instructions is important, you need to make sure that you follow them. They'll help you get to a successful point much faster where you can see how important those same instructions were in the first place.
- Accept that you need the help: There is no shame is needing it, even the best money managers in the world are going to be able to benefit from this kind of relationship. It's a good thing to have, there are many benefits to having professional financial guidance to help you make the best future for yourself.
It's normal to be fearful of a new relationship especially when it comes to the holder of your money, but the more you focus on the good it'll bring, the better you'll be prepared to make it work. So, focus on these tips and help yourself get to financial freedom faster.
